Liam sat rigid, the screen’s light reflecting in his wide eyes. He felt a creeping dread. It was supposed to be a private confession, that essay. Now, everyone in his class would read it. Everyone.

He got up abruptly. His chair scraped against the floor. He ran his hand over the back of his neck, trying to ease the sudden tension. He needed something, anything, to break this feeling.

He went to the window and threw it open, inhaling the chilly autumn air. It barely helped. He clenched his fists, forcing himself to breathe.
